This event has been cancelled for Saturday October 12th due to wet conditions. Please stay tuned for a new date.
We are so lucky to have the powerful land and energy house of Torrance Barrens in our community. Unfortunately, as its popularity has grown so has the suffering it has received with visitors leaving trash, garbage, and other contaminants behind. It is imperative that we, as the community stewards of the land, make a concerted effort to protect this important piece of our home.
On Thanksgiving weekend we would like to invite you out to Torrance Barrens for a re-imagined community cleanup project. While it is simple to collect the garbage left behind by others in bags, it doesn’t solve the problem. It simply moves the trash from one part of the planet to another. Instead, we would like to propose an initiative to turn the trash into Art. To take these seemingly useless items and create something beautiful with them that also remind visitors to reduce the creation of trash in the first place and to respect the land and natural resources that serve on.
How to Get Involved
Our team will be out at Torrance Barrens on Saturday, October 12th from 1pm-3pm (Rain Date, Sunday, October 13th 1-3pm). We can assist with ideas, locating trash, or even finding supplies to make your creations. Simply show up at the visitor entrance and look for our signs. If you can’t make it that time, know that you can visit Torrance Barrens at any time to participate on your own!
When you arrive we will invite you to find some trash that has been left behind and re-imagine it into something beautiful. Think about turning pop cans into wind chimes, paint signs on pizza boxes, build sculptures out of leftover food wrappers, make wreathes out of paper. There is no limit to your imagination!
After you’ve created your piece of artwork post it to Instagram with #ProtectTorranceBarrens or #TrashToArt to encourage this movement to spread further through our community.
